Mary Lou Meccariello Executive Director The Arc of the District of Columbia
Mary Lou Meccariello, a native Washingtonian, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with more than thirty-five (35) years of professional experience in the field of Disability, specializing in mental retardation and related developmental disabilities in the District of Columbia. As the current Executive Director of The Arc of the District of Columbia, Mrs. Meccariello oversees all operations of the fifty-four (54) year old organization whose primary role is advocacy and supports to persons with disabilities and their families. She has played a key role in new program initiatives, service delivery, employer development and training and legislative initiatives for persons with mental retardation in the District of Columbia. Her extensive career and on-going leadership training and graduate studies have enhanced her image and respect in the city, becoming a prominent leader on disabilities in a variety of forums, committees, boards and other influential groups.
Mrs. Meccariello currently serves on the Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities, the DC State Rehabilitation Council, the DC Developmental Disabilities Council, the Brookland Business Advisory Council and the Advisory Council for the University of Maryland Rehabilitation Counseling Program. She is also serving on the Board of Directors for Safe Horizons, a newly formed organization in the District of Columbia, and the National Center for Children and Families in Bethesda, Maryland, of which she has served as past president. Mrs. Meccariello is a graduate of Leadership Greater Washington, class of 2006. |
