EVAN J. KRAME

Evan J. Krame is an attorney practicing in the fields of estate planning, trust administration, guardianships, probate, and tax planning.  A 1982 graduate of the National Law Center at George Washington University, Evan continued at George Washington to complete a Masters in Taxation in 1985.  He has a particular interest in planning for persons with disabilities.  Much of his practice is dedicated to advising fellow attorneys and parents on their choices in the management and application of assets for children.

 

Evan has been appointed by the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and Circuit Court of Maryland to serve as trustee of trusts created to manage recoveries for incapacitated persons upon the settlement of litigation.  Many of these trusts are special needs trusts, designed to keep the beneficiary eligible for Medicaid benefits. Evan has also served as guardian ad litem,  advising the Court on the appropriateness of a settlement. He has lectured on this and related topics to the District of Columbia Trial Lawyers Association, the Estates Trusts and Probate Section of the D.C. Bar, at Suburban Hospital, to U.S. Trust Company, the Spina Bifida Association and the public. He has appeared on Radio and Television shows as well including Law School for the Public and Parents Perspectives.  Evan has also served as guardian for a number of elderly and incapacitated adults.   He frequently advises clients on asset protection and Medicaid planning.

 

Before entering private practice, Evan held positions at the Department of Commerce and at the Internal Revenue Service, Office of the General Counsel.  He was also a principal in Marx & Krame from 1986 through 1998 and a shareholder in Miller, Miller and Canby in 1999 and 2000. 

 

Evan was an adjunct professor at American University Law School in 1999 teaching Estate Planning.  He also served as an adjunct professor at Montgomery College for seven years.  Evan served as co-chair of the Estates, Trusts and Probate Section of the District of Columbia Bar in 1999 and 2000.  He serves as a member of the Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Counsel and served on the Advisory Board for Legal Council for the Elderly.  He has been an expert witness on probate matters for the Office of Bar Counsel.  Articles written by Evan have appeared in the Legal Times and the Gazette Newspapers.  He has lectured for a variety of government agencies and nonprofit organizations on Estate Planning.

 

Evan serves on the Advisory Board of Capital Bank, NA.  An officer of the American Friends of the Anne Frank House, Evan also serves the community as President of the Hillel at George Washington University, and a member of the Board of Directors of several organizations including the Olney Theater and Capital Camps and Retreat Center.

 

Evan is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey; he lives in Maryland, with his two children, Zachary and Sarah, and his wife Jodi, who is also an attorney.
